It was mid afternoon when Loudthunder finally decided to make his way out of the warriors den. He wasn't really hungry right now, but noticed that the pile of fresh kill was running a little low. Maybe on the way back I'll stop to hunt. He thought to himself as he padded out of camp and toward Sunningrocks. He made his way through the dense forest that surrounded him with the sun glinting through the branches of the trees. Summer seemed to have come especially quickly this year, for it wasn't even May and the temperature was well over what it should have been. Sometimes the heat got to cats and gave them bad attitudes, but thankfully even though it was hot that day, there was a light breeze on the air which cooled him down immensely. He could smell the river now that he was close enough to his destination. Loudthunder picked up his pace and darted the last few tail lengths to the small shore line. He felt the cool and wet sand seep between his paw pads as he stepped out to the river to get a drink. When he was done, he sniffed the air for intruders. Pleased with finding nothing wrong, he settled himself down on one of the large flatr rocks and began to wash while he waited for a certain friend of his to arrive...

((I'm going to post with Fernpaw, because she's been neglected!))
Dappled sunlight streamed through the leafy covering of the trees, giving the atmosphere a green tinge. Dark brown pelt lay pressed close against the earth, emerald gaze intense as the cat watched the ThunderClan tom dip his paws in the stream. Fernpaw crouched, bottom in the air and wiggling furiously as she prepared herself to pounce. With a quiet intake of breath, she leaped forward, hurling herself at Loudthunder. She hoped he wasn't crabby like the other cats, and snap at her. But it was too late now. She was going too fast to pull up her rapid charge.
An "Oof!" escaped her as the apprentice tried to turn, skidded and slid into the tom. Green eyes quickly averted themselves from his face as Fernpaw sat miserably on the cool sand, ears and whiskers drooping making her the perfect picture of dejection.

Loudthunder sat up suddenly smelling the air, with his mouth hanging open. Someone or something was approaching. The problem was he couldn't tell where it was coming from. all of the sudden he heard a twig snap and he turned his head to see what had made the noise, but it was a second too late. *THUD* A furry missle crashed into him sending him flying into the river. Slightly dazzed, he climbed out of the water with his fur clinging to his wet and cold body. He turned to look at his attacker. "Fernpaw you ningconpoop!" He meowed. shaking his body of the wet substance. He gave the young apprentice a playful cuff on the ear. Settling down on a rock again, he quickly began to lick his soaking body. "Did you really have to do that?" He joked. "I just washed!" He looked at Fernpaw with narrowed yet kind eyes. "What brings you here to this humble part of ThunderClan territory?" He asked the apprentice.

Fernpaw bounced up, seeing no anger in the warrior's eyes. Dark brown pelt shown glossily in the sun as she looked up at Loudthunder with puzzled green eyes.
"Well," she began, as if trying to figure it out herself, "I came to practice my stalking. Flamingstar hasn't even taken me out to see the borders since I've become her apprentice! I don't want to fall behind, Fawnpaw's at least 3 moons younger than me, and she's already learning how to hunt. It's not fair!" Large, troubled eyes gazed up at the tom. "Doesn't she like me?"

"Well a leader has many, many things to do Fernpaw," a voice said. A ginger she-cat cat walked up to the two cats. "I love you, like I love my whole Clan Fernpaw," the ginger pelted cat meowed. She walked in front of Fernpaw, her stunning emerald green orbs looked straight at her apprentice. "I will train you today," Flamingstar mewed. Then she held up one of her white paws and started to lick it with her pick tongue. "So, do you want to learn how to hunt mice or rabbits? Or even both?" she asked her apprentice.

Fernpaw looked startled, then embarassed. Her leader and mentor had just caught her whining to a warrior about being forgotten. How horrible! She soon forgot her feelings as she realized Flaminstar had just asked her a question.
"Yes! Oh, yes! Can we do both? Can we really? Oh thank you, Flamingstar!" The apprentice bounced from paw to paw as she waited for an answer. Then she rushed on, "Can Loudthunder come too? I want him to help me, because I've heard he's a really good hunter! Can we all go and you both can teach me so I can learn extra, extra fast? Can we?"

"Sure, Loudthunder can come," Flamingstar meowed. Her heart burst with joy seeing her apprentice so very happy. Then she padded to a bush, and she smelled a mouse. "Fernpaw what do you smell?" the ginger leader asked very quietly. Her fluffy ginger pelt shined in the sunlight that was coming through to top of the trees. While her beautiful crystal green eyes sparkled.
(Sorreh, not much to work with)

((That's okay!))
Fernpaw padded over to her mentor. She sniffed deeply at the air, murmuring softly in her leader's ear, "It's some kind of rodent. Is it a mouse or a rat?" She sniffed again, "Mouse!" she esclaimed, sounding and looking immensely pleased with herself. At the sudden noise, however, the mouse bolted. Cursing in frustration, the apprentice leaped after it, claws outstretched. Barreling through the ferns and crashing through bushes after the mouse, Fernpaw closed in. Just as her claws were tickling it's behind, the mouse darted into it's hole. The apprentice sat back, disappointed and disgusted. Ears, whiskers and tail drooping pathetically, she trudged back to her mentor. Looking up, eyes brimming with sadness, she mumbled, "I was way too loud, wasn't I?"

Loudthunder watched the eager-to-please apprentice smell the air. She recognized the scent and yelled out what it was. Too loud! Loudthunder watched with amusement as Fernpaw bolted after the small furry object. Making enough noise to scare all the prey in the forest. He watched again as she missed the mouse as it scurried back into its hole. A few moments later Fernpaw returned with a look of frustration and embaressment. Loudthunder laughed at her comment. "Yes, just a little bit too loud." He joked. "With all the noise you made, it doesn't look like there will be any prey for a while."

Fernpaw glared at him for a second, anger and humiliation battling in her gaze. She suddenly relaxed, a sheepish grin spreading across her muzzle.
"Oops!" she mewed in embarassment. She butted her head playfully into Loudthunder's flank, a purr rumbling in her throat. The apprentice turned back to Flamingstar, "Do you think all the prey has vanished? Do you think I could try one more time?"

Loudthunder stepped in quickly and answered for his leader. "Well... Maybe not all the prey has dissapeared." He sat down up rigth and started to lick a forepaw. He glanced over at Fernpaw, her face no longer brimming with frustration. He expected that there might be a rabbit or two that hadn't heard all the raucus that the young apprentice had caused. He looked around the forest intently for a moment, before resting his gaze on a rather large rabbit sitting quite a few tail lengths away. "Do you see that over ther Fernpaw?" He asked her. Pointing his tail in the rabbit's direction. If you are quiet enough, and patient enough, then I think you will have what it takes to stalk that rabbit and kill it before it even knows you're there." He waited for Fernpaw to answer.

Fernpaw looked in surprise at the rather large and rather plump animal sitting under the shade of a bush. It must be deaf, she decided. No other creature would sit still after hearing her racket. Still, she wasn't about to let the oppurtunity escape her.
With an appreciative smile directed at Loudthunder, the apprentice crept quietly towards the rabbit. She remembered to keep her weight in her hips, so that the rabbit wouldn't feel her pawsteps. She crept closer and closer to the rabbit, auds flared as the smell of the prey grew stronger as she slunk closer.
Once or twice, she made a mistake. She moved to the right when she shouldn't slunk to the left, or she slunk when she should've crept, but the rabbit didn't move. It sat calmly, not even twitching an ear or a whisker. It's flanks were so still, it didn't even appear to be breathing, and it certainly hadn't caught sight of the apprentice. This rabbit must be blind as well as deaf! Fernpaw thought. Just how stupid is this creature! she thought in exasperation. A couple of times, a flicker of doubt stirred in her, a normal creature surely would've run away by now.
She pushed the thought aside and continued to creep closer. When she was close enough, she hurled herself towards the rabbit. She landed triumphantly on the rabbit, but before she could celebrate, a net rose up and wrapped itself around her. Fernpaw froze, horror pulsing through her limbs. She'd heard about these traps! Twolegs set them up in the forest to catch the foxes and the badgers, which they baited with fake prey. The Twolegs usually rubbed the fake prey with dead real prey to give it a good smell, then set it out in the forest. And she had fallen for it!
The apprentice began to struggle, and the more she struggled, the tighter she became trapped. "Help!" she yowled. "Don't let them take me away!" she cried, desperately wrenched back and forth. She fought, clawed, bit and kicked, but in vain. No matter what she did, the net defeated her at every turn.
Fernpaw turned fearful, burning eyes on the warrior and her mentor. "Help me, please!" she begged.
((Sorry, I couldn't resist. Could Loudeh or Flamingstar rescue her? Or both? But since Flaming seems to have abandoned this thread, Loudeh can you?))

Loudthunder had been watching Fernpaw as she stalked the rabbit that sat a few tail lengths away. But soon she quickly disappeared behind the bushes. He then turned back to Flamingstar who had said nothing since Fernpaws' little fiasco only moments before. He was about to speak to his leader when he heard a yelp of confusion and the smell of fear waft over him as he looked in the direction of the noise. He quickly realized where it came from. "Fernpaw!" He screeched in the apprentices' direction. He raced through the thickets of vines and bramble, their their thorns and spikes tearing through his flesh the entire time. The smell of Fernpaw's fear drew closer with every leap. Then suddenly he pulled to a hault, scattering leaves and dirt everywhere as he reached the clearing where he had seen the rabbit earlier. There high above his head was Fernpaw. Trapped in some sort of cruel two-leg device. He glanced sideways looking at the rabbit, which was now on its side. What?!? He thought furiously. Its a decoy!!! Surely the dawn patrol or some other cat would have noticed the scent of two-leg invasion this deep in the forest! He wasn't sure whether Flamingstar had followed him or not, but now was not the time to be thinking about that. The main question now was how was he supposed to get Fernpaw down?
