As Spiderbreath slowly padded into the camp's clearing, she took a short glance behind her, smiling to herself as she made sure that Hazelblaze was still there, walking right after her. She blinked gratefully over at him, and then turned back again, loping swiftly over to the pile of fresh-kill set in the middle of the oval of cleared ground, though it was a bit more near to the side than the actual middle. Dropping her catch, a plump mouse she had tricked into easiness then chased across the grimy floor of the Carrion Place, onto the top of the pile, she picked out a fuzzy chaffinch and set herself down beside the food for the first time since she had lost her mother. It was rare to find her in any place that was easily frequented, the warriors' den being the only one where she would deliberately be seen, and so it would come as quite a heavy surprise to any cat who knew her well to find her laying there, the plumed form of a bird between her paws, a ghost of a smile on her gaunt striped features. Deep, easy breaths made her chest rise and fall, unbothered by the usual grating coughs and rattles deep inside the she-cat's throat, telling of that terrible event in her kithood days. She really, truly seemed changed. Crimson-tipped ear flicked casually as she bent her neck, lowering her cranium to bite into the chaffinch. Powerful jaws closed around the tiny avian's cold, fragile body, tiny bones crunching easily under her gleaming fangs, the sweet, musty taste of prey filling her mouth with an ardent fervor unknown to her for many moons. It had been a long time since she had tasted meat and actually enjoyed it. Smiling to herself, she began chewing the bite, the rest of the bird's form locked tightly between carmine paws. Golden gaze swept gracefully over the rest of the camp, searching for the tom she had hunted with, the one who had said he would help her. She sighed faintly, waiting for him to appear again, and swallowed the meat, brown-streaked tail flicking lazily from side to side.

The young tom paused to watch as Spiderbreath hurried over to the fresh-kill pile and picked out the chaffinch. She really had changed so much since they left camp early that day. This was the cat she was meant to be, a voice inside him said. The real Spiderbreath was coming out. With a small smile to himself, Hazelblaze padded over to the pile overflowing with fresh-kill. He added the furry mouse he had caught early to the heap of food and picked a small but fat vole from the pile. Plopping down beside the variegated she-cat. the brown tabby looked around the familiar camp. It was good to be home. He sighed contentedly before leaning down and taking a bite of the vole. It's sweet, juicy flesh filled his mouth and he chewed slowly, savoring every moment of it. After swallowing, he leaned down and continued to chomp down his meal. Again simply being in the presence of another cat felt good, comforting. Other than his jaws chewing the vole and his tail that flicked occasionally, Hazelblaze sat motionless in silent content.

Spiderbreath smiled warmly at the earth-hued tabby as he plopped himself down beside her, picking out a vole as he dropped the mouse he had caught on the pile. Then the brightly-hued she-cat returned her golden gaze to the prey between her paws, gave a contented little sigh, and chomped down again, the hint of a smile still present upon her marked features. The juicy meat she ripped off between curved fangs filled her mouth with pleasure, and she purred as she dug in heatily, excited by this newfound joy. Food had always turned to ash in her maw before, since she was simply... not alive enough to like eating, but now... now... It was pure bliss the crunch those small white bones between powerful jaws, to swallow the sweet, heady flesh of the prey in her paws, gorging herself upon the invigorating scent of fresh kill. Another new experience for a cat that was as innocent as a kit. Another something to liven up her poor life. And she enjoyed it, she loved the feeling it gave her, the shivers running up her spine as her belly slowly filled. The chaffinch didn't last long. Soon, all that was left were the bones, and even those were not many in number. The sprawled in the dust tiredly, half-closed orbs glancing over at Hazelblaze, a thick, throaty purr rumbling deep inside her chest. She had missed so muh in those past moons. So very, very much. Now she would catch up to the others, and live her life as she should've always lived it. Bent on following this action, she set her head down, drifting into a deep, untroubled sleep for the first time in moons. And right beside her new companion. She had really changed.

The vole vanished in only a few bites, each one even more satisfying than the last. With a final lick of his maw, Hazelblaze lay his snow-colored chin on his paws, resting a moment. After a moment his surroundings became unnoticed as the tom's mind began to wander, filled with thoughts of the future. Spiderbreath was changing, actually living, that would be obvious to any cat who watched her for even a few moments. How much more would she change, and how quickly? His amber optics were now glazed over in thought. For now, he would try to be her constant companion, either by her side or in her sight, unless she said otherwise. Good enough plan for now. But what happens when she does say otherwise? Will he be able to stop, give her some space, or would he be like an over protective parent, unable to take the hint? Hopefully, he could manage the first.
His tail flicked lazily as thoughts continued bouncing around his head, turning into a confusing mix. With a shake of his head, the young warrior sat back up, glancing over at Spiderbreath as he did so. A kit-like innocence was about her as she lay sleeping, and the sight of her somehow brought Hazelblaze back to reality. He'd be ready for whatever the future brought. Always had been. With a little sigh, the Siberian tom laid his head back down and began to doze.

Several, long, warm, sun-filled hours later, a white warrior queen padded up. Her pelt was long, and streaked with gray. In the afternoon light, it seemed to glow, like a firebrand in a dark cave. The she-cat's white paws, one tipped with gray padded gently on the ground, silently. Small clouds of dust rose at her limb's touch to the ground, appearing as if small, dust-colored cats rose and walked at this warrior's heels. Blue oculars searched the clearing for any cat who would want to go on a patrol. But the ShadowClan leader came up short. The fae turned and started padding half-heartedly back to her den, realizing that she would have to find another cat soon, when her stream-blue optics alighted upon a bright orange pelt, and brown one. Spiderbreath and Hazelblaze. While the leader was slightly confused to see Spiderbreath anywhere but in her den, she padded on nonetheless. A faint wind blew through the camp, lightening the hot day's heat. The sun beat down upon the three cats in the clearing. A paw lifted, and pearly claws were kept sheathed. She prodded Hazelblaze in the side, and mewed in his ear. "Wake up!" Then turned to do the same to Spiderbreath.

Spiderbreath awoke with a start, disturbed from her peaceful and light slumber, her head snapping up in alarm as the call rang in her ears. She glanced round furtively, and upon seeing Rapidstar, jumped in surprise once more. She lowered her head immediately into a submissive position, hunching her shoulders closer to earth-hued ears, her skin prickling in shame at being caught napping when she should be doing something out there, in the territories, for the Clan. She glanced back up, then swiftly returned her gaze to the ground, as if embarrassed at the thought of looking the Leader straight in the eye. But her shyness seemed to slip away bit by bit. She hefted herself up into a sitting position, curling crimson-tipped tail around small paws, though her head still stayed low. Shifty gaze moved from Rapidstar to Hazelblaze in quick succession as the she-cat watched and waited for the tom to wake up at the nudge and few words. Then, feeling the silence was a bit too oppressive, the female decided to fill it with her own voice, speaking up instead of keeping her voice whisper-quiet as she would have once some time ago, when her reassurance was still hiding away in some corner of her mind, when her hope was dead and not yet reborn. But now, now... she felt different. Truly alive. Might as well do something about it. "Um... Is there something wrong?" the brightly-colored she-cat mewed hesitantly, not really avoiding her Leader's blue gaze, but not meeting it head-on either.
((Gah. A bit dead for words here. Might get bigger as more things happen in this thread.))

Hazelblaze gave a little kick as he was prodded, consciousness returning to him reluctantly. He thought he could hear voices faintly, familar voices, but he couldn't quite remember who they were. Then, with a jolt, he found himself not only awake, but staring into his leader's blue eyes. Whoa, how'd that happen? Blinking in surprise, the young tom tried to force himself all the way awake. Embaressment washing over him, he looked over at Spiderbreath in slight confusion. Why did he let himself get caught napping? The only time he ever napped was when he was safelly in the warriors' den, and even then it didn't happen that often.
You were just tired, that's all. a voice from somewhere inside him called. He ignored it, realizing that he should say something.
"Erm, sorry about that, Rapidstar. Is there something you need us to do?"
How late was it? Had they slept long? Though the brown warrior had sounded calm, his mind was still in chaos. Embaressment still running through him, he forced his hazel optics to stay locked in ShadowClan's leader.
((Sorry it's not that great. I'm emotionally drained right now...))

((Sorreh ya guys! Forgot that I was in this thread...))
Rapidstar's gaze flicked from one cat to the other. Hazelblaze was a kind warrior, and always willing to do what he could for his Clan. Spiderbreath... Well, let's just say she didn't get out much. She seemed to always be hiding in the warrior's den. She was cautious, to say the least. It was extremely surprising to see her out of the den at all, much less sleeping outside, nearby a fellow warrior. At Spiderbreath's question, a bit of sympathy came into her eyes, only to be casually flicked away. "No you're not in trouble. Nothing's wrong." Hazelblaze's voice turned her attention to him. "Yes, there is Hazelblaze," she replied. Her white tail flicked to the side, swatting away an annoying gnat. "I need you two for a border patrol. You can try and get a few more warriors to come with you, or just go yourselves. Hazelblaze, you are in charge of the patrol, since I can't seem to find my deputy." Annoyance flickered on the edge of her gaze, and she turned to Spiderbreath again. "Be sure to patrol the ThunderClan border extra carefully. They're always trying to stir up trouble, and don't let your wariness drop on the WindClan border." With that, she paused, and waited their reply.

With his leader's assurance that they could do something to help, relief filled Hazelblaze. If they could help out the guilt of being caught sleeping would leave him. After hearing the task given them, however, his heart sank. There was no way he could lead a patrol! Rapidstar needed an answer, though, and he wasn't about to say no. With a quick nod and another glance at Spiderbreath, the young tom replied:
"Yeah, we can do that." Turning to face the she-cat beside him he asked, "Do you want to find another cat to join us or should would you prefer just you and me?" He glanced over at Rapidstar as he waited for an answer.
His voice was calm and friendly as usual, but also decisive and confident, once again the exact of how he really felt. Uncertainty filled him, and confusion. How had he ended up leading a patrol? There always seemed to be older, more experienced warriors around who could be in charge, so he had never had to before. Somehow, all those more experienced cats had managed to be off doing something, leaving the task, for the first time, up to Hazelblaze. Could he handle it? Probably, if it was only a few cats, counting himself and Spiderbreath. Any more than that and he'd probably have to hand the responsibility over someone else. Then again, who would blame him for conveniently failing to find any other felines to join them, when Rapidstar herself only managed to find two cats to go on the patrol.
You can do it. he told himself. I hope.
His tail brushed against the multifariously hued she-cat beside him, urging her to say something. He'd feel a lot better when they were actually out on Clan territory. If it was actually happening, the brown-pelted tom wouldn't have time to worry.
