An orange tom strode up to the top of the hill, soft paws falling upon the grass. The scents of prey hung thickly in the air, squirrels and mice from what Tyr could tell. But he chose to ignore them, he hadn't come here to hunt. The sun's orange orb hung halfway below the horizon, shedding its last golden rays. Around it swirled pink and lilac clouds, entwining to form a beautiful mosaic that could never be duplicated. And in the center danced a vibrant orange.
The Sunset was a peculiar thing. Some looked at it as an end while others looked at it as a beginning, for once it had finally sunk the night gently unwound, gripping the forest in its black velvet sheet, the moon watching over the forest in the absense of the sun. In a way it could be compared to life. The sunrise symbolized a cat's birth. A new life was as unpredicatable as a new day. And as the sun made its journey across the sky it symbolized a cat's growth, from kit to warrior. And the setting sun symbolized two things. The end of a cat's time on earth and the beginning of a glorious eternity among the stars.
Then the thought crossed Tyr's mind, was the sun rising or setting on his life? He was fairly old, he probably should have retired to the elder's den a while ago but he had not wanted to give up life as a warrior. He doubted he ever would, he wished to end his days on earth fighting and defending justice, not lying around in a den waiting to die of old age. He didn't really care when his spirit and body parted ways, as long as he had a clean consience when they did he would be happy. Then he could take his palce among the stars and join his ancestors.
