Moonriver bounded into the meadow, his paws hitting the moist topsoil, creating a soft, regular thudding sound. As he passed easily through the tall grasses, weaving back and forth between them with the silence of a snake, he relished in the sheer joy of movement. The sun glared down on his hide like a starved cat would a mouse. Oddly, he enjoyed the feeling, as it was one more of warmth rather than one of pain. His white pelt seemed to glow in the radiant shine, making him feel slightly lazy. Moonriver wasn't out here in the meadow because of a normal warrior's reasons, hunting, patrolling, fighting. Instead he was here because he was a newly dubbed mentor. As his mind turned back to this topic, he glowed in pride at the thought of his new apprentice. Wasn't it odd how one could go from laziness and boredom to happiness, excitement and anticipation? About an hour ago, he had been lying around camp, waiting for something to do, when he saw an excited kit, and then soon after, he was a mentor, and she was his apprentice. Her name was Hazelpaw. He glanced over his shoulder to see her brown tabby pelt not to far behind, and her blue eyes seeming to reflect the sky, not to unlike his own aqua ones. He had come here to teach Hazelpaw to hunt, and to learn she would soon.

((I can't reply much to that. Sorry))
"Don't tell me the first thing we are going to do is learn to hunt! I caught a fat, juicy fish when I was only a kit! I don't need training out here!" Hazelpaw rudely remarked. Now, it seemed impossible that Hazelpaw would ever become a noble, and loyal warrior. But one day, she would be fighting alongside her Clan-mates, ready to risk her life for what she believed right.

Moonriver immediately halted. Now was the time to show he was the mentor. She would listen to disipline. "And I suppose that you can catch a fish perfectly each and every time too?" he said, rounding on her. His eyes burned, daring her to retort. His white pelt lay smoothly upon his back, and he stared deep into Hazelpaw's blue eyes, searching for an answer. Prey-scent blew strongly towards him, but he took no notice. The grasses swayed back and forth loudly, accentuating his angry mood. "Or, I guess that you know the proper technique for hunting voles, mice, rabbits, toads, squirrels, and birds." He sat down in front of her, and calmly started licking his forpaw, still waiting for an answer.
((Ugh... Brain is dead. Wake up brain! *hits self on head*))

Hazelpaw huffed. Did he think that he could boss her around, just because he was a warrior? In a few moons, she would be one too, and he would be a lousy old elder. She would show off her hunting and fighting skills in front of his ragged old face. The she-cat apprentice smirked at her daydream, but when she heard Moonriver's second remark, her smug grin quickly evaporated, leaving her with little more than a frown.
" Alright. Teach me what you got."
Hazelpaw replied, trying not to show how eager she was to learn from her idol.

((Idol??!! Coolio!)) That's better thought Moonriver, Hazelpaw's smug grin coming to rest upon his face now. He turned away from Hazelpaw for a moment, seeming to evaluate the time, or the amount of prey in the area. Cloud light paws turned back to face Hazelpaw. "Well," Moonriver began. "There aren't all those kinds of prey right here, but mostly mice." He paused for a moment, lifting his head to scent the air, as if to confirm the fact that there were mice nearby. He lowered his head a few moments later, disappointed that the prey had all been scared off by the loudly meowing cats. He stayed there for a few moments dissolving in his disappointment. Then Moonriver thought, She won't be able to stalk perfectly the first time, so she'll get some practice first. "Show me a basic crouch." he said simply. He would evaluate her skill, and correct it soon.
((Remember, no apprentice does it perfectly the first time XD))

((I know. xP))
Mazelpaw obeyed, but she tripped herself, and got herself a nose full of dust. She jumped back up, eager to show that she wouldn't be stopped from reaching her goal. But, as she crouched, she sneezed, and fell backwards again. A mouse scurried away, not too far back. She pouted. Why couldn't Hazelpaw get it right? Thoughts of worry and doubt filled her mind, as she thought about how it is possible for her never to become a warrior.

Moonriver's gaze softened. A small bit of pity crept into his heart. How could I have thought she was as good a warrior as she said she was he thought. He sat down, and curled his rust-tipped tail around his paper white paws. His head was high up, showing his dominance over her, as he sat erectly. ((And by dominance, I mean higher rank.)) He looked at her attempts to crouch, and thought. Let's see, he thought, pausing for a moment. a mouse will feel you first, ((I think...)) so think light. Moonriver's ocean-blue optics refocused, and his jaws clenched together slightly. He stood up lightly, and walked over to Hazelpaw's side. "Nice try," he said with good humor. "But a mouse will feel you before he hears you, so you need to think light on your paws, like this." Moonriver seemed to lighten off the ground, his white pelt making him seem like a low floating cloud. He waited for Hazelpaw's reaction, staying in his light position.

Hazelpaw nodded at her mentor, and quickly dropped to the ground. Hope fluttered past, and as she invisioned it in her mind, a small mouse scuttled by. She leaned forward, weight in her tail, and with a swift jump, she grabbed onto the mouse's tail. Her claws dug into it's scrawny body, and blood spurted out. She licked her lips, and held the squiggling thing up for her mentor to see. Pride gleamed in her eyes, and she showed the half-alive animal to Moonriver.
