Huhhh, I'm SOO BORED!!!! thought Ivorykit. All of my friends have either been apprenticed or are asleep. If only there was something to do around this stupid camp! So Ivorykit sat and stared at the river. And sat and stared some more. And sat..... and stared....and was bored. Huh, now I'm hungry. So Ivorykit walked over to the stream and leaned over the riverbank to see if she could spot a fish. She had seen the apprentices do this so many times, she had the form and technique perfect. Or so she thought.
Ivorykit leaned over the riverbank and spotted a quick flash of silver. Aha! My first catch of the day! Ivorykit bent over and swatted at the fish with a quick flick of her paw. But she missed and lost her balance on the rock on which she had been perched. Oh, no! I'm falling!
Ivorykit struggled to get to the surface, to air. She followed the current, knowing that swimming against it would only be worse. Ivorykit took a big gulp of air and went under to avoid the rocks and branches. When she went up for air, she couldn't budge. Her tail had been wedged in between a tree root. She turned around and pawed at her tail, but it refused to move. Her vision started to go black. I'm dying.

The roaring of the river had been a lifesaver for Ace, she has been traveling all around this land and her thirst for water was bugging her. Quickly, the she-cat padded over the grass stained ground, odors of moist ferns and leaf mold penetrated her nostrils as she drew closer to the edge of the forest. She made a turn before lapping up some of the water that made the river, ears flickering to spot out any sound close by. Golden orbs gazed from the liquid to a shadow beneath the river's surface. Before long the loner was able to see the form of a cat, it seemed to be drowning. Now, Ace started to panic thinking it over, 'It may already be dead but.. what if it's not?' as she looked at the situation her forepaws were shaking, as if she was getting ready to make a leap into the water. Finally her decision was made, hunched on her hind legs she took flight into the air and soon broke through the water, swimming toward the cat. Her paws started to kick as the she-cat inched her way up to the cat which she soon noticed was actually a kitten. Jaws took hold of the kit's scruff and she started to pull, her effort was pointless as she caught sight of the tail in-between a tree's roots. Fangs bit into the roots as it broke, soon the kit was freed from it's prison. Once again she took hold of it's scruff before pushing her way up, her paws now searching for something solid as they landed on wood. Opening her eyes did Ace noticed that she had found the trunk of a tree, now with unsheathed claws she got herself on it. Another second and the loner had jumped on land before quickly pacing up where there were more grass to place the kit on. Finally there she placed the victim on the ferns, she bent down putting her snout under the kit's shoulder and started propping her up, waiting for the water that the RiverClan kit had taken in to come out of her.

Moonstorm was headed back from patrol, tired and still hurting from the empathic ordeal she had been through the night before. She sighed, pausing to give her chest fur a quick lick. She needed to spend more time grooming, her fur was begining to look a little disgruntled. Since she was done with her duties for the day, she decided to go meander around the river in search of a few fish for the Clan. The more food for the Clan, the better. She changed her direction, headed now towards the river. Her pawsteps were silent in the dense undergrowth, the rattling of leaves in the trees her only guidance onwards. Ahhh, sweet silence. It encompassed her sensitive ears, soothing them as they had not been soothed in moons. Sweet, sweet, silence. The wind had changed direction, Moonstorm noticed, pawing her way ever so carefully towards the river. She stopped for a moment, letting her nose catch the scent of the wind. Her jade green orbs opened wide in astonishment. There was a strange scent on the breeze, not one of any Clan. That scent mixed with a RiverClan scent alarmed her. Quickly, she bounded across the landscape, eyes anxious, powerful legs strong beneath her. Memories fled back to her, liquid pain throbbing through her mind all the way down to her paws. She couldn't be too late...she had felt this very same way the day of the WindClan attack. The day Rainpaw had died. StarClan help me... She dashed through a paticularly thorny bush to end up on the banks of the river, staring at a strange cat and one of RiverClan's kits. She felt her hackles raise, her fur bristle. What was this cat doing with their kit? Moonstorm went over to the pair, eyes darting between the seemingly lifeless form of Ivorykit and the strange cat that carried the scent of no Clan. "Who are you," she hissed, eyes narrowed, "What are you doing in our territory with our kit?"

Ace was still propping up the kit, why did she have to rescue it anyway? It's probably dead, not moving nor choking out water as she expected. Not giving up she kept her snout under it's shoulder before hearing a rustle coming from the bushes close by. The next thing she saw was another she-cat standing infront of her, the loner bit down a snarl as the cat gave off the the scent that the kit had. Her ears flicked, there were no other cats except all three of them, good, she won't cause a ruckus. "I have not come for battle nor a fight, this kit was dying in your river and I took her out.." the loner explained as her golden oculars stayed on the other she-cat. Muscles didn't make a move as Ace inhaled the scent of the kit once more, it still hadn't move and Ace was starting to doubt her luck. Quickly, she took out her snout that had layed under the kit seconds ago and looked up at Moonstorm. "Please help the child, she does not breath.." Ace spoked to the RiverClan cat before looking down at the kit again. 'What have I done? Should I have saved it?' she made a stressed sigh before looking up at the other she-cat again. If the kit were to die right now, right here they might blame it on her. Especially if she was a loner, no one will stand up for her. Her throat became tight at the image her mind made if this kit were to die. 'I had to save the kit.. I can't can't believe this..' she shook her head as she looked at the lifeless body of the kit.

Moonstorm inhaled sharply. Her hackles lowered, her fur lay flat on her back. "I'm no medicine cat," she told the loner, her tone much softer than it had been originally, "But I will try." Moonstorm went over to the limp kit, heart pounding out an unrecognizable rhythm. Was this how a medicine cat felt when they held life and death in their paws? Moonstorm could only assume so as she placed two paws upon the kit's chest and pushed heavily. The two cats sat in silence as Moonstorm tried and tried again to expel the water from Ivorykit's lungs. Oh, StarClan, help me now. Send Ivorykit's spirit back to us. She gave a paticularly hard shove and murky river water shot out of the kit's mouth. A small cough echoed from the tiny body and relief immediately tingled through her paws. Ivorykit wasn't out death's claws yet, but at least the kit wasn't completely in the paws of StarClan. The cough did not necessarily mean the kit wouldn't fade into StarClan. She turned to the loner. "RiverClan thanks you for your help, loner. We are in your debt for helping our kit, regardless of whether she lives or dies." Moonstorm dipped her head to the cat, grateful. She turned her luminous jade circlets onto the golden ones of the loner. "We should get her back to camp. Bengalpelt is better trained to handle lives than you or I." Moonstorm meowed. She took a deep breath, and then added, "Besides, Taintedstar will want to thank you personally. You've done a great service for our Clan." She picked up the small body by the scruff of her neck, motioning with her tail for Ace to follow her.

Cautiously, Ace took a few paces back as she let the warrior try helping out the victim. Her gaze was not only kept on the RiverClan cat but as well as the body of the lifeless kit. 'Please... let her live.. She's still so young' a cough interrupted the she-cat as she came out of her daze. Water that had once been hold up in the small kitten was coughed out. A smile came upon the loner's features, something quite unusual to even herself for it has been such a long time that she felt so.. relieved. Feeling satisfied that this cat meant no harm to her, Ace regained the steps she had took to get out of the way. Ears flicked as she heard Moonstorm thanking her as well as this RiverClan, maybe it was one of the clans she had been told about. A slight nod was made before she heard that a Taintedstar thanking her personally, she gave small sigh, practically audible to one's ears. 'Clan this.. Thanking that.. I guess it won't hurt me much..' this sentence came to her as she slightly tossed her head a bit to the side in befuddlement. She then noticed that Moonstorm wanted her to follow, with another nod she want after the warrior as they went off to RiverClan.

Ivorykit opened her eyes to a thin mist over the clear, blue, waters of the river. Unclear as to what had happened or where she was, she closed her eyes, trying to clear her head. When she opened her eyes, the fog started to clear. From across the river, she saw the shape of a cat she did not recognize. "Hello Ivorykit." said the cat. "Where am I?" "You are in the presence of StarClan, at the moment. You tried to break the warrior code by fishing even though you are a kit. You fell in the river and drowned. A loner and Moonstorm have saved you, however it will take your inner spirit to return to your clan." ((And yes, I know that is very cheesy.)) "Who are you?" asked Ivorykit, slightly frightened. "I'm Leapordstar, a leader of past. You may or may not heard the legends. If you go back, ask some of the elders about it. But you do have to go back." "How?" "You'll know." ((Again, very cheesy. Um...Silver says she likes cheese. (Makes weird face.))) said Leapardstar as she faded into the distance. "Wait, don't leave!" Ivorykit opened her eyes to a quick chill. She looked around her to see a cat she didn't know and Moonstorm leaving through the underbrush. "Wait!"

At the sound of the small mew, Moonstorm's jade circlets widened with relief. She was alive! Motioning for Ace to once again follow her, she bounded back to the kit's side.
"Ivorykit! Are you all right?" Concerned, Moonstorm gazed deep into the kit's oculars, probing for any sign of discomfort or pain. Though her pupils were still a bit cloudy and the kit seemed a little disoriented, clarity resonated in the irises. Waves of relief washed over her from ears to tail. She hadn't lost her! Ivorykit still lived!
Moonstorm padded over, sitting down beside the kit. Her eyes scanned her body for any broken bones or other serious injuries, but the worse ones were a few bumps and bruises. Though it was probably an excellent idea for Ivorykit to see Bengalpelt just in case, it seemed that Ivorykit was out of danger.
Moonstorm turned her gaze to the loner. Did Ivorykit know that this cat had saved her life? Not only that, but Ace hadn't even known the playful kit. Yet she had risked her own life to save that of another. This was Moonstorm's idea of true bravery, and for that, she honored Ace.
Grief gripped her as she thought of Rainpaw, the one apprentice who had, in retrospect, given her life for Moonstorm. Moonstorm had always been haunted by the lively young apprentice, even moons after she had died.
Moonstorm shoved back the memories, determined not to show her weakness in front of Ivorykit or the strange loner called Ace. "Come," she said, trying to clear her eyes of the pain, "We should be getting back. I believe there are thanks in order. Follow me." With a tilt of her head, she began stalking into the bushes, glancing behind her to make sure her two companions were following.

"Moonstorm! Wait!" cried Ivorykit as she raced to catch up with her Clanmate. "Who is that loner, and what are they doing here?" muttered the she-kit under her breath. Ivorykit stared at Moonstorm, puzzled. She had survived the river! That should be celebrated! And yet, there was a pained look in Moonstorm's beautiful jade eyes. But the emotion soon vanished and Ivorykit thought nothing of it. When Moonstorm didn't answer her question, she assumed that the warrior didn't want the loner to overhear, and think of her as rude. Moonstorm and the loner who Ivorykit still had yet to meet started to head towards camp. Ivorykit, still weary from her excitement of the day, slightly dragged her paws as she walked next to Moonstorm. The trio of cats walked into the RiverClan camp with a few uneasy glances at the loner with them. "Should we go to Taintedstar and tell the clan what happened?" asked Ivorykit. "After all, one of the clan kits almost died." Ivorykit sounded almost pleased with the fact, as if the attention from her accident was a good thing. Ivorykit noticed that the loner sat at the edge of camp, unsure of what to do. But Ivorykit stayed with Moonstorm and waited for the warriors answer.

The argent-hued feline stopped and looked back at the kit that, having regained most of her energy, was bounding after her. She shook her head, amusement twinkling in her jade oculars. She was quickly bombarded with a series of questions that made her mind spin. She laughed, a gentle sound that vibrated in her throat.
“Her name is Ace. As for what she’s doing here….well, I don’t know, but you especially should be glad she was where she was. You might not have escaped with your life otherwise.”
The three cats padded back to camp, but Moonstorm’s paws were carrying her the distance she was not thinking about. How had Ivorykit, a mere kit survived when Rainpaw had not? Had StarClan a true destiny for the ball of white fur beside her, one they hadn't for Rainpaw? Why had they not spared the friend that had given life for her?
Drawn out of her thoughts by another sudden flood of inquires that certainly had burst from the maw of the kit, Moonstorm had to laugh. One of the Clan kits?
Moonstorm scuffed a paw across the kit's ear in a gentle, teasing gesture.
“A Clan kit, huh? Well, we’ll see what Taintedstar says when we get there…”
Motioning with her head for Ace to follow, Moonstorm led the way to Taintedstar’s den.

Ivorykit looked up at Moonstorm, and wondered what the heck type of a name Ace was. Then she saw Moonstorm go back into that...state... She would just be lost in a memory dazed, and her eyes would go blurry. Ivorykit had noticed this many times, and had pondered the fact that no one else seemed to notice. But Moonstorm would always flash out of it quickly, as if she didn't want her pain known. Ivorykit knew that Moonstorm had black memories in her past. Everyone had heard the story of Rainpaw. But that had happened a while ago, but Moonstorm would never completely get over it. But Ivorykit wondered why she didn't mourn her own parents like Moonstorm did her best friend. "Moonstorm? I know that you want to remember Rainpaw. I can tell you think about Rainpaw a lot. But, how come I can't remember my parents like you can your best friend? I know I was barely able to go out of the nursery, but, I just can't get why they just aren't with me like Rainpaw is with you. I know that this is an odd and slightly stupid question, but, how do you mourn so well?"

The playful tone faded out of the kit's voice as she asked a different question, one Moonstorm was unsure she was ready to face.
Oh Rainpaw...
When the kit had finished, Moonstorm took a deep breath. She had to tell this kit. If she didn't, Moonstorm would go the rest of her life dwelling in misery and memories.
"We...we were the greatest of friends, " Moonstorm began shakily, her voice warbling, but growing stronger with every word. "We were the trouble of RiverClan....always causing trouble as well as getting into it. We were Moonpaw and Rainpaw, the silver tyrants of the river. We were young....stupid even....but those were the best days of our lives. We thought we shouldn't waste our youth because we'd be old and shriveled sooner than we thought but....but..."
Moonstorm's throat closed and she shook her head. She couldn't. This was going to far. Any further and memories would flood through her like the tears that were already coursing down her cheeks. Already they were beginning to trickle through the barrier that Moonstorm had fought so hard to bury them under. Her and Rainpaw basking by the river, sharing tounges. Rainpaw distracting the elders while Moonstorm rubbed their new moss in mousebile. The Clan leader, once again chastising them and giving them an unbelievable number of extra duties.
Unable to bear it, Moonstorm began to run. To where, she knew not, though her mind knew exactly where she was going. To the river, where a splotch of blood still imprinted on a tree trunk related the tale that Moonstorm was never going to be able to overcome.

Ivorykit stared Moonstorm, unable to see her clan mate in such pain. As Moonstorm wept, Ivorykit started to let tears drop from her eyes as well. Suddenly, Moonstorm ran off. "Moonstorm! Wait! I'm sorry!" Ivorykit ran after the warrior. She followed Moonstorm to the river tentatively, unsure of whether she should be this close to it after her accident. Moonstorm lay on the riverbanks next to a tree with bark stained with blood. Ivorykit sat next to the she-cat, letting her tears roll down her cheek.
"Moonstorm, I'm sorry. I didn't know that it would hurt you that much. Please forgive me?" Moonstorm didn't reply. The RiverClan kit started to lick the warriors flank in comfort. "I now know what a strong bond you two had. It's just, I got too absorbed in why I didn't have memories, that I forgot how harsh your memories were."
Unsure of what to do, Ivorykit sat and stared at the river that had now scarred her for life. Now that she had drowned, it made her wonder even more why Leopardstar had greeted her, rather than her own parents.
"I think about my parents sometimes. I don't think about them as often as you do Rainpaw, but, I do. But when I think about them, I think how much happier they'd be if I were helping the clan, rather than mourning constantly. That's why I try not to think about them that much, and that's why I always get into trouble, because I want to have fun. "Think that if you had died in the battle with WindClan instead of Rainpaw. And don't say you wish it had been that way, 'cause I know you're going to. But if it was you watching Rainpaw from StarClan, would you want her to think about you constantly, blaming herself?" asked Ivorykit sensatively. "No! You would want her to have fun! You would want her to remember the good times, not the bad! I'm not saying you should forget her Moonstorm, don't even consider the possibility of me meaning that! But I am saying that you should try to stop blaming yourself and move on. Look to the future, don't dwell on the past. There wasn't anything else you could do. You went to the clan for help! Think how many other lives would have been lost if you hadn't! Now, I know that I'm not very old or experienced or wise, but, I think that you should try to move on."
Tears ran down the kit's cheek as she said words that provided little comfort to the situation. The she-kit hoped that Moonstorm wouldn't take her suggestion the wrong way. Ivorykit looked at the ground, and was soon lost in the rushing of the water.
((I know some people get really attatched to their cats, so Moonstorm, if this is offending you in any way, please let me know so I can delete the post.))

(It's no problem! It's good advice! I just don't know if Moonstorm is ready to move on yet. ^^)
Moonstorm gazed at the white ball of fur with warm green eyes that pulsed with a mixture of fear and understanding. She padded over to Ivorykit and rasped her tounge against the kit's head in a gesture of gratitude and thanks. Her gaze turned to the splotch of crimson that stained the bark red, an unwavering reminder of the horrible day that forever had scarred Moonstorm. However young Ivorykit might be, what she said made sense in ever regard. The silver swirled feline needed to at least tell someone the story. And it seemed that Ivorykit might be the only one who would truly listen.
But she knew that it wasn't the right time. She knew when she fully told the story to a cat, anycat, she would be over Rainpaw forever. Moonstorm knew that she needed to move on, but she also knew that she wasn't ready to let Rainpaw go.
But the present and the future held many an untold secret. A smile flickered in her jade eyes as she gazed at the little she-kit whom she was just beginning to consider a friend. She knew that Ivorykit's apprenticeship was approaching, and that gave her a thought. Maybe an apprentice like Ivorykit would help her to move on. Maybe, if Ivorykit did in fact become her apprentice, she could finally tell the story of Rainpaw.
"I'm afraid I haven't been paying much attention to the Clan as of late," she confessed, her voice still saturated with pain. "Would you mind telling me what happened to your parents? If you don't want to talk about it, that's okay....I still can't talk about....Rainpaw....so..."
Tears flowed like the river itself down Moonstorm's face.
Oh Rainpaw...
