Hazelpaw looked over at her pile of fish, very satisfied at her catch. She smiled, looking down at the river again, marveling at it's shining surface. She wondered what it was like to be a fish, free to swim and free to fly under the water. Hazelpaw tilted her head to the side, looking down at the water. Then she thought about how a fish is eaten, and cannot truly be free, as it is carried by the current downstream. Hazelpaw looked at a butterfly fluttering in and out of the reeds. She pounced on it, and let it float between her paws, playing like a kit with the colorful playtoy. She then heard something upstream. And she smelled something upwind. It was in fact Thunderclan. At Sunningrocks? It was a beautiful day, and she couldn't make up any excuse for why they wouldn't be outside playing around. Any probable excuse.
But Hazelpaw found panic in their voices. And she smelled it too. Plus, there was no probable excuse for why they were heading straight towards her! Hazelpaw jumped out of the way, as Sunpelt pulled herself in the river, struggling to get across. The sun-kissed warrior paddled slowly, and tugged herself out of the icy freshness, looking Hazelpaw in the eyes, as she gasped for breath.

((Two things to ask. One: could you please write in bigger text? It hurts my eyes... and Two: since Moonriver is Hazlepaw's mentor, can he be here? I want him to watch her die, and then go into withdrawal a bit. Pweese?))

((Sorry. And sure. Here is the mini-plot thing that Brightriver and I are doing. Feel free to join in! ^^;; We just don't want too many people, because we don't want to overrule the real plot.
Shadowheart, the menacing killer, killed his sister, Moonwhisper, his brother Roughpelt, and his mother, Rustlingleaf. All that he wants is power. He killed them so that he would be killed young and strong, and he was. His mother accepted him into Starclan, as no mother can truly betray their son. Shadowheart wants to take over both Starclan and the Clan cats. Throughout Wcv3, Sunpelt has been having thoughts from her father. One time, both her and Nightrain, her brother, had a mid-day dream and visit to Shadowheart in the fields of Starclan. He is trying to get them to help him, and accept each other, so that he can work his dark plan upon them. Brightlight finds out, and warns Brightriver, whom warns Sunpelt. Sunpelt knows that Nightrain must be warned as well. They come upon Nightrain's adopted kit, Hazelpaw, and try to tell her what is going on. Hazelpaw doesn't believe them, but Nightrain does. Shadowheart transfers all his power to Hazelpaw, because she has to kill Nightrain, Sunpelt, Brightlight, and depending on how much Moonriver sees, Moonriver as well. But Hazelpaw tricked Shadowheart. She flings herself into the river, and dies, with all of Shadowheart's strength going with her. She has learned enough to become a warrior, and her ceremony is held over her dead corpse. (((Just adding that so it gives her more respect for her death))) All is saved. Shadowheart is banned from Starclan, and the Clan cats are safe. But Hazel_____ will never return home.))

Brightriver came walking up slowly next to Sunpelt, this would be dangerouse, Hazelpaw could tell a patrol that they were here, and it would be over for them. No sign of patrol. No sign of Hazelpaw warning a patrol. No sign that Sunpelt would turn around and become Shadowheart. All was fine, but she was disturbed, more skitterish than latly, it wasn't Lynxmoon, it was all that had happened. Shadowheart, Brightlight warning her, her putting her life on the line to relay a message. All this had happened in one and ahalf days? It didn't seem possible, but it was, it had already happenned, had already passed.

Sunpelt turned to Brightriver, and shook herself off. She hated being wet. Hazelpaw screwed her face as the water rained down, like Sunpelt was shaking like a dog. Sunpelt looked, as another figure stepped out of the reeds. It was her brother, Nightrain. He raised his fur, and hissed loudly.
"What are you doing here?" "I have bad news, and a warning..." "You are on Riverclan Territory!" "I understand that, thank you very much." "Interfering with an Apprentice's Test!" "I did not know that, I am sorry." "Hazelpaw, did you see anything? Moon river is probably here somewhere." Nightrain said, looking around helplessly. "What is this warning, whoever you are?" "That is Sunpelt, my sister." Hazelpaw nodded. "Shadowheart has come back, and wishes to rule the living and the dead. He is powerful now, and he is going to use us. That is why he sent us those dreams about being in the field, norgiving each other. Yes, I know that you had that dream, and I know that you have been thinking Shadowheart's thoughts as well. He is working his way into our minds. " Nightrain's jaw dropped. Hazelpaw pondered for a minute, and then shouted- "This Shadowheart guy sounds pretty cool. He can connect and control people."
Up in Starclan, Shadowheart smiled a twisted smile. He may not be able to use Nightrain and Sunpelt, but he had Hazelpaw to trust.

[Can I join in too? Taintedstar got kind of attached to Hazelpaw, and I want her to be here, then maybe Moonriver watching while Taintedstar just sort of is in shock and doesn't do anything, and then the Clan maybe turns against her. *shrugs*]

((Sorry Guys! I lost this thread, and haven't been able to find it. Here Goes!))
Moonriver had been in camp, enjoying a day off from mentoring, when he saw Hazelpaw slip out of camp. His white head tilted curiously, and he slowly heaved himself to his paws. Who was he kidding? He didn't want a day off! I'll go follow Hazelpaw, and do a surprise drill. After all, she has learned quite a lot these past few moons, and she could use a check up, he thought. He turned, and spotted Taintedstar in the clearing of the camp. He bounded over to her, and quickly spoke. "I'm going to run a drill on Hazelpaw. Would you care to come with me and watch her?" He paused a moment, but then turned around in his impatience. "Follow our scent trails if you choose to come," he rapidly mewed. Moonriver didn't have time to wait; he needed to catch up with his apprentice. His white pelt seemed like a flash of light as he streaked after his apprentice. True, he made some noise, but it was doubtful(sp?) that she had heard, for she kept going on. Soon enough, he saw Hazelpaw stop, and stand next to Nightrain. He settled in to wait to see what they'd do.

Nightrain gasped, unaware of Moonriver's presence. Hazelpaw shrugged, apparently unoffended. Sunpelt grunted. Riverclan. They never knew that a killer would harm even the smallest kit.
Hazelpelt felt a strange tingling in her feet. She looked down at them, aware of this unusual reaction. The tingling left warmth behind, a twisted sort of warmth. Like warmth from a fire you made a slave start and heat. The tingling rose past her knees, past her shoulders, and down her back and tail. The she-apprentice looked up to the skies, as she felt it go through her neck, straining her to reach her neck out. She knew what was happening. Strength was growing into her body.
From the skies, Shadowheart looked down at his adopted Great-granddaughter. He glowered with pride, as he saw Nightrain's horrified expression. They knew that look. All cats did. He gained power from his father, Ebonytide, in which he conquered many cats.
Sunpelt yowled in fright, and her kin and her lept into the reeds, covering for shelter. Nightrain wondered what had gotten into Hazelpaw. She was never like this. But as quickly as it came, it stopped. Hazelpaw was powerful and allmighty. Well, she wasn't allmighty. But she had the strength of two great cats. Herself, and Shadowheart. A voice whispered in her ear, echoeing for all to hear.
Kill the adopted kin. Shadowheart whispered from Starclan. And Hazelpaw nodded.
"I will." She yowled, glaring at Nightrain and Sunpelt. The two warriors recoiled back into the shadows, and with great surprise, they dropped their jaws as they saw Hazelpaw's next move. She had lunged into the center of the river.
The vast current swept Hazelpaw off of her feet, and she took all her breaths not over the surface, but underneath it, carefull to die as soon as possible, not giving Shadowheart a chance to take his strength back.
The she-cat hit a sharp rock, in which she died. Her spirit left it immediatly, and Shadowheart's power was gone. Shadowheart was banished into lands of nothingness. They were saved.
Nightrain grabbed the body, and pulled it to shore, paddling, as he stepped out of the river. He dropped Hazelpaw.
"She died to save us all. I will talk to Moonriver. She will be a warrior."
Nightrain said.
Sunpelt listened, and heard something. A figure stepped out of the reeds, she was unnoticed until now. She was deputy. She was Appleberry.
Appleberry took one look at the apprentice, body torn and bleeding, with Nightrain standing over Hazelpaw, and began to jump to conclusions.
"What have you done to her?" "Nothing!" "I don't believe you! The killers are the best liars!" "Really! I saw Nightrain try to save her!" "And Thunderclan on Riverclan territory? I should tell Taintedstar about this. Infact, I will! And it will be announced at the next Gathering as well!" "She died to save us all from Shadowheart! Appleberry, you must believe me!" "Nightrain, I don't trust you! How could you? You practically raised her!" "I tried to save her! Lady, how many times do I have to tell you?" "How many times to make me trust you! And that won't be happening any time soon! " "But Shadowheart-" "Don't bring our grandfather into this!" "But- wait... our?!" "Yes our. My mother was Shadowheart's mate." "So your like... our aunt?" "Whoever you are, your not involved!" "Don't talk to my sister that way!" "Why shouldn't I?" "Nightrain, I can fight my own battles." "Better than Hazelpaw?" "Hazelpaw fought like a warrior! She planned it perfectly, timing it better than any warrior I know." "PLANNING WHAT?!?" "Appleberry, you wouldn't know. You weren't there." -Good time for Taintedstar or Moonriver to come in and say something...-

Moonriver leapt out of the bracken hiding him as soon as he saw Hazelpaw fling herself into the river. NOOOO!!! his consciousness screamed. How could she be dead!?! This isn't happening! Moonriver's white body remained frozen with shock and fear as he watched Nightrain haul Hazelpaw's body out of the river. As soon as she was fully on the bank, his muscles unfroze, and he leapt over to her side. "Please breathe, Hazlepaw! Breathe!" he whispered fiercly(sp?) into a deaf ear. Though he thought it impossible to cry any more tears than he already had, or to be even sadder than he already was, tears flowed like crystaline raindrops down his furred cheeks. At first he didn't notice his deputy standing behind him, and talking with Nightrain. He didn't hear that the two cats were related, but he did hear Appleberry accuse Nightrain and the other cat, whom he didn't know, of forcing Hazelpaw into the river. He stood, and turned coldly to the deputy. All the anger and rage at Hazelpaw's death boiled up inside him.
"If you think that Nightrain would have killed Hazelpaw, then you are wrong." Tears streamed down his muzzle as if he had been doused in the river. "If you think this ThunderClan cat did it, then you are wrong. Dead wrong. It was Shadowheart. He killed her." Moonriver lifted his gaze to the heavens. "And wherever this Shadowheart is, he will pay dearly." His gaze lowered back to his deputy, and The white warrior looked him full in the face, emboldened by Hazelpaw's death. Moonriver wouldn't have dreamed of challenging his deputy before this, but now, it only seemed logical. Anger bubbled up behind his ocean-blue eyes, and he searched his deputy's for a response.

Appleberry sighed.
"Then it is true. Hazelpaw has been killed by the murderer. Moonriver, I fear that you are still too young to know him, these two know him for they are his grandchildren, but let me tell you this. He was a killer. He killed for power, and for the love of bloodshed itself. I am disgraced to be related to him. You are a noble cat Moonriver, and your apprentice's death must mean alot to you. Hazelpaw was in face on her trial (the test thing. Forgot what it is called), was she not? If so, I believe that you decide, will her daethbed be her warrior ceremony, or will she go to Starclan a measly apprentice, whom died to save us all?"
Appleberry inquired, looking at Moonriver. His aqua whispy eyes showed the only way to prove there were no lies. The crucial witness of murder to one of your followers. No. Hazelpaw was no follower. She was an equal. A partner. That is what the apprenticeship is all about.
"Moonriver, Shadowheart is dead now. The only way he could transfer his power to a cat on Earth was through Starclan, and he made sure any that knew would no longer be on Earth. We must thank those whom gave the message." Appleberry stated, turning to Brightriver, "And we must thank you, for training her so well."
It was obvious that there was more passion in the latter, but Appleberry bowed to Brightriver nonetheless.
"I would like Moonriver, Sunpelt, and Nighrain to accompany me to camp to spread the news. Brightriver, I mean no offense, but I feel you should head home. You will not be welcome, and Sunpelt will not be either, but she is Shadowheart's kin, and must be at the scene."

"Oh, sure I'll leave. I have nothing to do, though all I have to do is lounge around the camp, and be bored. Not like anyone cares of course," Brightriver growled. She turned tail and looked back at all of them, ears flattened to her head, back to camp, back to boring life. Why should she care? Mangy Sunpelt, and her relation to Shadowheart. It was her fault anyway that Hazelpaw died, if she hadn't told Sunpelt, Hazelpaw wouldn't have known. Everyone would've been happy. But did anyone care about her no? She relayed the message, put her life on the line to relay a stupid message. Hazelpaw died because what she did. She might as well have threw herself to the river, end it all. No that anyone would care one no. She would be hated, forgotten. The evil cat who relayed a message, and got an innocent apprentice killed because of it.
