Snowmark stopped chasing the imaginary rival clan warrior as he arrived at Tall Pines, he paused a moment to catch is breathe. There, I knew running would help warm me up. He thought to himself. Now, to hunt. He slipped under a nearby bush and waited patiently for prey, he might have scared some away by loudly running through the forest like he had. Perhaps it had been a bad idea but he felt no regrets. Another blast of wind brought the smells of the forest and of prey scent to his nose. Yes, there is prey here somewhere. Snowmark looked all around and above him, in the trees. There! A squirrel waved it's bushy brown tail, almost mockingly at him from high up on a branch. A branch that was too thin, dangerous for cats as big as him to climb on. The squirrel seemed to know this and waved it's tail again at him as if saying 'What's the matter, cat? Come and get me!' He narrowed his eyes up at it. Snowmark pounced at the tree, gripping it with his claws he began climbing up, the squirrel froze in what seemed to be shock, giving him enough time to get up to where the branch was. Yes, the branch was too thin for a cat his size to safely walk across but he had another idea. As the squirrel reared up on two legs to try and make a leap for a branch a few feet above it Snowmark batted at the small branch, making it wobble around. Taken off guard the squirrel lost it's footing and just managed to keep itself from falling by one clawed paw, the rest of it's limps wiggling in panic to get a grip on the branch. Deciding to take a chance he pounced at the squirrel while it was distracted. He missed gripping the branch by a mouse length, his pounce had been hurried and not as well aimed as he would have liked, but he was able to dig his claws in the squirrel's sides to stop himself from falling without his prey. As expected the weight of them both broke the branch and together predator and prey fell. Snowmark gripped the squirrel by the neck in his mouth and spread out all four of his paws in a desperate attempt to stop himself from falling all the way down to the ground. He managed to grip the very lowest branch on the tree with his two front paws, slowing his fall, not stopping it, he couldn't hang on. He landed hard on his feet and yowled in pain, accidentally letting the squirrel go. The squirrel took no time at all in trying to make it's escape to another tree. Desperate after all he had just gone through to catch it, Snowmark chased after it. He pounced down on it's back just a tail length from a pine tree it was about to climb up. Quick to make the killing bite, he bit down hard on it's neck and the squirrel now hung limp in his jaws. Dropping the dead body he growled. "Mousebrain!!! I could have found easier prey but no; that would have been too simple!" He hissed at himself for the stupid way he had caught the squirrel. His paws were hurting and he felt blood seeping out one of his front paw pads. A small scratch had been put there by trying to grip the rough bark of that low hanging branch during his fall. He didn't think it was enough that he'd need cobwebs to stop the bleeding but maybe he could ask the medicine cat for a few poppy seeds. He didn't want to seem weak though, it was just a hurt paw, so he just buried the squirrel under some ferns for now and decided to continue his hunt a little longer. He'd catch a mouse or maybe a vole and head back to camp with the prey. Then he'd ask for a few poppy seeds if his paws were still hurting when he got back.
